Little Red | Once Upon a Time Gallery Show
For our Graphic Design Senior Show, my group and I wanted to take classic and well-known fairytales and show them in a new, twisted way. The stories depicted in our show included Beauty and the Beast, Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland and Little Red Riding Hood.
The struggle between good and evil is a battle exhibited in both the fictional and physical world. Using a classic children’s story, I am attempting to challenge the idea that someone can be entirely good or evil, and instead show that they exist together within a single person.
Society focuses on labeling people as either a “Little Red” or a “Big Bad Wolf”. I believe each person possesses a bit of each trait, although we may try to hide or suppress what behaviors we don’t deem socially acceptable. We are constrained by societal norms and morph ourselves into the people we feel most comfortable showing the world. However, we all stumble upon instances where our instincts and negative characteristics peek through.
My series of photographs depicts this internal struggle physically, showing Little Red transforming into the Big Bad Wolf. Little Red’s face shows a constant state of struggle until the transformation is almost complete. This exhibits the constant effort to suppress what she believes is wrong, until she loses control entirely.
Below are the individual photographs included in the wall installation.
